James: “How do I quiet my mind and see signs that God is trying to show me? I am the type of person who over-analyzes everything from my career to my love life. I know I just need to stop and listen but I don’t know how to do that.”
The Voice for Love: “Dear One, to quiet your mind, listen to your heart. Watch your thoughts while holding hands with your true loving inner heart. Be the observer, as you have been, of your thoughts. Recognize you have this ability and have been using it without crediting it. There is no need to push your thoughts away or to judge them. But there is a need to shift your focus from belief that thoughts are your necessary guides. Instead, let a new experience be your guide. Use that experience to observe your thoughts instead of letting your ego be the observer and commentator on your thoughts.
“The experience you want comes from the recognition that you are a divine and eternal extension of God’s Love as His child. Be still and know that place deep within, where you recognize that you are a loving and creative being, which is much beyond being just a brain. Do not think about this, rather allow yourself to feel it. Feel the goodness within. Know it. From that awareness, extend anything that love would extend to your thoughts: compassion, gratitude, sweetness of an embrace, kindness, acceptance, and so on.
“Your thoughts themselves have only the meaning that you give to them. If you assign them the task of finding your way to a life with your peaceful center, they will fail. You cannot think yourself into a kindly future. But you can practice extending love to those same thoughts. In that manner you come to the experience, the knowing of yourself as a good, loving, creative and compassionate extension of God’s Love.
“So allow your thoughts to be, but know they do not make or predict your reality, no matter how hard you try to make them responsible for that. Use them as the props they are on your life’s stage. Practice experiencing your true identity as love by offering any aspect of love to your thoughts, including the aspect of acceptance. Let your resulting experience be your informative guide in any present and future moments. Do this practice daily, before giving yourself over to the external demands of the world. Learning to listen starts with this daily practice. Your spiritual heart’s mind will take you further.
